IBOM 29: THE ROAD TO 2030
Today, marks another phase of political independence of our people in Akwa Ibom state. Since the creation of our dear state on 23rd September, 1987 by the then Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, the state has undergone serious political turmoil, just like any other state of the federation. That notwithstanding, the state has recorded several developmental strides. I want to seize this occasion of the 28th anniversary of Akwa Ibom state creation, to thank the good people of Ikot Abasi for their steadfastness, love, commitment, doggedness, and gallantry, in making sure that the ideals of democracy is witnessed in our land. I also use this medium to salute the stamina of my people in contributing their quota to the development of Akwa Ibom state. Today, I urge us all to remain calm, steadfast, focused, visionary, and, always be ready to challenge the status quo, when there is need for such, and make sure that democracy is practiced, as it is embedded in the concept. This message is particular centered on our young people, who have been recognized as the major development factor by the United Nations, which played out in this year's World Youth Day theme. As Akwa Ibom clocks 29, I urge the youth of Ikot Abasi in particular, and Akwa Ibom at large, to rise up to the challenge of self definition; I challenge the youth to brace-up for mounting the leadership of governance at all level. The youth has the potential, to unlock many economic opportunities, and change the face the current situation. I challenge the youth to be ready to combat all forms of political-cum-ethnic evils such as imposition, ethnic chauvinism, religious-faith bigotry, etc, most particularly, as the forth Council elections draws close. The youth must stand up in unison, and take their collective destiny into their hands; we must define who we are, not the other way round. All road leads to 2030, which aims at total eradication of poverty world wide, and which the role of the youth cannot be over-emphasized. Our vision is not short-termed, but, a long term vision. Though, our country is facing the worst economic situations in our history, we would surely come out of it, but, we must be ready to till sweat for time, and enjoy forever; this, we will achieve through diversification of our economy, and move from the oil sector, to the non-oil sector of the economy. We regret, as well as feel the pains of the masses, the hardship on the land, but, we know, sooner, things will be alright. We thank our ever-dogged and unrelenting supporters, who have shown us great commitment, and love, and are ever ready to do their bests, to make sure we succeed in the race. Thank you, we love you all.
Long live the good people of Ikot Abasi!
Long live Ikot Abasi L.G.A!
Long live Akwa Ibom State!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
