Bilikisu Abodunrin, a 25-year-old unemployed woman was today arraigned and charged before Magistrate M.K.O Fadeyi of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for beating her mother.
Abodunrin, a resident of 16, Ayantunga, St., Mushin, Lagos State, is being tried for a breach of the peace, assault and threat to life.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momoh, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 31 at her residence.
Momoh said that the accused, unlawfully, assaulted her mother, one Mrs Adenike Adeniran, by beating her up.
“The accused threw some punches at the complainant’s body and caused her bodily harm,’’ she said because she used to separate her whenever she was fighting.
“The accused on this occasion beat-up the complainant because she stopped her from fighting with a neighbour.
“The accused, a nursing mother, also threatened to poison the food of the complainant and kill her,’’ she said.
The offences, Momoh said, contravened Sections 56, 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171 provides that if the accused is found liable, she would be imprisoned for three years.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Magistrate Fadeyi adjourned the case to June 20 for mention.
