AKWA IBOM STATE UNIVERSITY VICE CHANCELLOR DONATES A BRAND NEW BUS TO STUDENTS' UNION.

VICE-CHANCELLOR DONATES A BRAND NEW BUS TO STUDENTS’ UNION

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eno J. Ibanga on 4th May, 2016 commissioned and presented a brand new eighteen (18)-seater bus to the Students’ Union Executives as part of the fulfillment of his promise to them during their inauguration recently.

The Vice-Chancellor in company of Management and Members of Senate officially handed over the keys to the vehicle to the Students’ Union President, Mr. Kufre Akpanikot, noting that the bus would ease the challenges of transportation discomfort that is inevitable in the discharge of students’ union duties.

The Vice-Chancellor advised the Students’ union President to accommodate the needs of others when putting the bus to use and prayed that the bus will not bring calamity on the students and the university as a whole.

He further said the University Management is putting the students’ interest first, while sorting out general challenges facing the university community. Prof. Ibanga added that the aim of the University Management is to move the university to a globally acceptable and distinguished standard. He disclosed to everyone present that the vehicle is purchased using the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the University.

The Students’ Union President, Mr. Kufre Akpanikot said he is delighted to see the fulfillment of the Vice-Chancellor’s promise. He expressed gratitude to the University Management for the kind gesture coming at this initial stage of his administration. He particularly thanked the Vice-Chancellor for keeping to his promise of providing a bus within two weeks, but fulfilled the promise even before the expiration of two weeks. The President said it was a double blessing for him as the handing over ceremony coincided with his birthday.

He used the opportunity to appreciate the Vice-Chancellor and Management for the extension of deadline and opening of the university portal for another two weeks for registration, and called on the students to take advantage of the extension and register for the semester.

Mr. Akpanikot assured students that his administration is bent on bringing all to a harmonious coexistence aimed at satisfying academic, social and all round needs of the students. He however called on his fellow students to always put themselves in the shoes of others before reacting to grieving issues and implore them to embrace dialogue and avoid irrational decisions on matters affecting them.

There was excitement on the faces of students who witnessed the presentation, just as the vehicle was dedicated to God in prayers by Prof. (Bishop) Umoren Umoren.
