AKWA IBOM STATE POLICE COMMISSIONER REFUSES TO PRODUCE INSPECTOR FOR TRIAL OVER THE MURDER OF A MOTORCYCLIST.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani today failed to honour an Uyo High Court order, mandating him to produce his officer, Inspector Moses Akpaete, for trial over murder of an okada rider, late Felix Kenneth Akpan.

At the resumption of the hearing on the matter Monday, three other policemen involved in the case, were brought to court, except Inspector Akpaete, who is said to have pulled the trigger that allegedly killed Felix.

Inspector Akpaete, alongside three other police officers: Inspector Idoko Sampson; Corporal Enobong Udo and Corporal Godwin Nnana, are standing trial for a two count charge of murder and conspiracy to murder.

He was the leader of the police patrol team on 15th October, 2015, when at Abak Road, by Federal Secretariat, Uyo, they allegedly descended on commercial motorcyclists, including the deceased and in the process, shot him to death.

The late Felix Akpan, a native of Mbiabam in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the State, is survived by a wife and two children.

When the matter first came up for hearing, the three other policemen were present in court, except Inspector Moses Akpaete.

On the second and third day in court, he was nowhere to be found.

This prompted the court to order Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani to produce Inspector Akpaete for trial on Monday 25th April 2015, which the case was adjourned to.

As early as nine o'clock in the morning, the three other accused persons were again brought to court, but without Akpaete, against the court order.

At that point, the Prosecution Counsel, who is the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, informed the court that he personally met with the Police Commissioner and the Assistant
